I'm also a usually quiet, reserved Lady, who enjoys books, tea, baking, and movies! I spend most of my time reading one of my favorite books or wishing I was reading my favorite books. My Grand Passion is history, particularly the Regency Period in England, when Jane Austen wrote, Lord Nelson defeated the French Fleet at Trafalgar, the Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon, and men were Gentlemen and women Ladies. I cherish the thought of being a Lady and love manners, being proper, and having proper tea. My favorite tea is Twinings, especially Earl Grey or Prince of Wales. My specialty to make is Scones with Devon Cream. I am a Catholic and a Conservative.

Items of Interest

Here are some posts I found especially interesting today. I hope you will visit these great blogs!

At Woman Honor Thyself, Angel has a post up about Hollywood’S LatesT Cinematic AssaulT on Judeo-Christian values. Aren't you tired of it too? Go read Angel's great post.

Over at her blog, Amy Proctor has a great post up about Liberal Infallibility-The Gospel According to Coulter. Liberals like to use mouthpieces who have had personal tragedies. That way, they believe, no one has the moral authority to criticize or question them. Quite silly. Ann, of course, does a great job defending our right to speak freely too. And, Amy does a great job condensing Ann's chapter.

At A Rose By Any Other Name (I just love Shakespeare allusions!), Anna has a great post up Neil Cavuto's Common Sense. Namely, how the Democrats have reacted so negatively to the death of Zarqawi, rather than congratulating the troops on their awesome job. Well worth the read!

On Thursday, Beth at the Blue Star Chronicles had a post up titled Another One Bites the Dust. Bye bye, Zarqawi! Lots of great info and links.

Over at NRO, W. Thomas Smith has a column up about Zarqawi's death with a great title: The Black Prince Is Dead. Included in the column are the opinions of a number of military men. Great reading.

At Stop the ACLU, Gribbit has a post up about how the NYT [is] As Delusional As Daily KOS. Are Conservatives or Liberals more of a blogging power?

And, even more about that from American Daughter: (Use the link to read the whole fantastic post)

Bloggers who lean-to-the-left are holding a three-day convention in Las Vegas this weekend (coverage here). The annual meeting is named for their spiritual leader, Markos Moulitsas, who created the popular liberal blog Daily Kos. The events of the YearlyKos 2006 Convention, and the way that those actual facts are reshaped in reports by the legacy media, make for a fascinating political and cultural study.

Recognizing the rising influence of the Blogosphere, some Democratic presidential hopefuls for 2008 are participating. The spectrum of attitudes toward bloggers among these self-styled elites is most interesting.

  • Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the minority leader, will deliver the Saturday night keynote speech. Said Reid, “I do believe that each day, they [bloggers] have more impact. Now how far that will go, I don’t think we know that yet….One of the reasons I so admire them is they have the ability to spread the truth like no entities I’ve dealt with in recent years. We could never have won the battle to stop privatization of Social Security without them.”
  • Mark Warner, the former Democratic governor of Virginia, held a reception at a hotel casino on Friday and is a scheduled speaker for Saturday. He is widely regarded as the Democratic candidate who most clearly recognizes the influence of bloggers, and has engaged left-wing blogger Jerome Armstrong, who early on started the weblog MyDD, as an advisor.
  • Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, is a scheduled speaker for Saturday.
  • General Wesley Clark held a reception for bloggers Thursday night.
  • Governor Tom Vilsack of Iowa, another 2008 Democratic presidential hopeful, participated in a forum on education.
  • Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut attended.
  • Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico apparently decided to come only after observing that his rivals were participating. His name was not included on the printed programs. A Friday breakfast meeting he sponsored was announced with a hand-lettered sign. Said Richardson, “I see you guys as agents of advocacy — that’s why I’m here….Bloggers are a major voice in American politics.”
  • Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY), declined an invitation to attend. Her spokesperson cited prior commitments.
Our editorial observation is this — no politician is EVER too busy or too previously commited to attend an event that is important to them. And this event was planned far enough in advance to make schedule adjustments possible if necessary. Senator Clinton has the resources to fly in to Las Vegas, make a one-hour appearance, and fly out again with hardly a ruffle in her agenda. She chose not to confer her approval on the bloggers. This snub can only be good news for those who do not want her to become president.
