Shut them down!

Liberals and other Catholic-haters like to behave as though every Catholic priest in the history of Catholic priests has been a child molester. The MSM write countless stories about the very small number of actual Catholic priests who have sexually abused children (or allegedly) and then act like their "facts" come from the Bible. Then, people who hate the Catholic Church call for it to be investigated, tried, and done away with.

There is, no doubt, a higher percentage of school teachers who sexually abuse children. Have a look at this article:

Students in America's schools are groped. They're raped. They're pursued, seduced and think they're in love.

An Associated Press investigation found more than 2,500 cases over five years in which educators were punished for actions from bizarre to sadistic.

There are 3 million public school teachers nationwide, most devoted to their work. Yet the number of abusive educators — nearly three for every school day — speaks to a much larger problem in a system that is stacked against victims.

Most of the abuse never gets reported. Those cases reported often end with no action. Cases investigated sometimes can't be proven, and many abusers have several victims.

That's a lot of abuse. And teachers see students more often than priests do. Think of all the abuse that takes place. Yet, I don't hear for anyone calling for the public school system to be shut down (for this reason).

Those are the findings of an AP investigation in which reporters sought disciplinary records in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The result is an unprecedented national look at the scope of sex offenses by educators — the very definition of breach of trust.

The seven-month investigation found 2,570 educators whose teaching credentials were revoked, denied, surrendered or sanctioned from 2001 through 2005 following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Young people were the victims in at least 1,801 of the cases, and more than 80 percent of those were students. At least half the educators who were punished by their states also were convicted of crimes related to their misconduct.

The findings draw obvious comparisons to sex abuse scandals in other institutions, among them the Roman Catholic Church. A review by America's Catholic bishops found that about 4,400 of 110,000 priests were accused of molesting minors from 1950 through 2002.

Look at the numbers:

• From 2001-2005, 5 years, 2,570 educators were accused of "sexual misconduct."

• In at least 1,801 cases the victims were young and more than 80 percent were students.

• From 1950-2002, 50 years, 4,400 priests were accused of abuse.

Perhaps I'm just really bad at math, but 2,570 educators accused in only 5 years sounds a lot worse than 4,400 priests accused in 52 years.

One report mandated by Congress estimated that as many as 4.5 million students, out of roughly 50 million in American schools, are subject to sexual misconduct by an employee of a school sometime between kindergarten and 12th grade. That figure includes verbal harassment that's sexual in nature.

Four and a half million children.

Of course, the teachers' unions are firmly on the side of . . . the teachers:

The overwhelming majority of cases the AP examined involved teachers in public schools. Private school teachers rarely turn up because many are not required to have a teaching license and, even when they have one, disciplinary actions are typically handled within the school.

Two of the nation's major teachers unions, the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association, each denounced sex abuse while emphasizing that educators' rights also must be taken into account.

"Students must be protected from sexual predators and abuse, and teachers must be protected from false accusations," said NEA President Reg Weaver, who refused to be interviewed and instead released a two-paragraph statement.

And I thought liberals were all about "the children!!!"?

And what about the rights of the priests? Of the Catholic Church? Of the innocent Catholic priests who have been dragged through the mud and spat upon?

Sexual abuse is wrong wherever it takes place. We would all do well to remember that Catholic priests are not the only sexual abusers out there. School teachers are a hell of a lot worse.

This is "a fraud on the people."

The American public won't accept at face value Gore's self-righteous proclamations or his self-serving predictions of looming global catastrophe. And Gore has to know that, which is why he will almost certainly stick to the world of make-believe -- Hollywood and International Do-Goodery -- where he can pretend to be the great sage and savior he wishes he really were and left-wing Europeans and thespians try to convince us he is.

So very true.

Until Barbara Walters or Diane Sawyer attends to Paris Hilton’s obsessive compulsive media attention disorder, or until her publicist appears at a press conference to explain her “medical condition,” we can only guess at the affliction that served to spring Paris’s privileged posterior from the Los Angeles County jail.

Some common afflictions of the rich and shallow come to mind:

* Beverly Hills Nervosa: Tremors associated with residing outside the 90210 zip code

* Follicle Phobia: Fear of combing her own hair

* Congenital Servantitis: Catatonic state caused by separation from hot and cold running servants

* Media Aphasia: Inability to speak with anyone not wearing a press badge

* Jumpsuit Fever: Shortness of breath from wearing ugly clothing

* Disconjunctivitis: Inability to look at regular people

Let's All Be Illegals!

Apparently the White House has forgotten who the American people are . . . and who the illegal foreign aliens are.

From the AP:

WASHINGTON - Even as it bowed to complaints about vacation-ruining passport delays, the Bush administration insisted Friday it is pressing ahead with restrictions next year that could mean even bigger travel headaches.

Responding to protests, the State Department and the Homeland Security Department said they would temporarily relax a rule requiring passports for air travel to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean.

The application surge is the result of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, in effect since January, which required U.S. citizens to use passports when entering the United States from Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean by air.

There are so many applications that the State Department is very, very, very backed up on passports. Even though they knew this was going into effect. Brilliant bunch of people there.

And, worse:

Despite that [. . .], security officials said they would proceed, as of January, with a requirement that passports be presented at all U.S. sea and land border crossings. Homeland Security plans to offer a draft in two weeks that spells out how the new rule would be implemented, said spokesman Russ Knocke.

How do you like that? We might as well all become illegal aliens. They obviously can move freely through our borders, through our society, but we Americans can't!

Several members of Congress were incredulous, and pledged to force a change in the January deadline.

"They have got an awful mess that they can't handle and they're going to have to put this whole notion off for another year," said Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., whose district lies along the U.S.-Canadian border. "If there is a mistake to be made, I'm sorry to say DHS will make it."

I couldn't agree more! And the biggest mistake is confusing American citizens with the illegal aliens! We aren't the criminals. We aren't the ones sneaking across the borders. We aren't the ones who should have to deal with all of this.

Maura Harty, the assistant secretary for consular affairs, acknowledged the department did not adequately anticipate "the American citizens' willingness and desire to comply" with the rule "in the timeframe that they did."

Last year, the agency processed 12.1 million passports. This year, officials expect to process about 18 million, she said. The department received 1 million applications in December, 1.8 million January and 1.7 million in February.

And look at that: last year they processed 12.1 million passports. This year, probably 18 million. The number of illegal aliens in this country is as low as 12 million and probably higher than 18 million. Why can't we process that many right out the door?

But the mess only gets bigger (not even considering how big of a mess DHS will have if the Amnesty is revived and passed):

Harty said the department had hired 145 people last month to work on the backlog and would hire 400 more this quarter. Target turnaround times for passports were bumped up from six to 10-12 weeks after the surge, but 500,000 applications have already taken longer, she said.

Those numbers pale in comparison to what lies ahead.

According to government estimates, about 6 million Americans will need formal documents to travel to the Caribbean, Canada or Mexico by air or sea. The estimated need for land crossings is more than four times that: 27 million Americans over the next five years. Those numbers do not include the regular year-to-year demand for passports.

The State Department is still working on creating a cheaper passcard alternative for land crossings.

Isn't this fabulous?

I really just can't get over the fact that DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff and President Bush have been trying to reward illegal aliens with citizenship, not seeming to understand that there are probably terrorists in that group, but want to force more requirements on American citizens. I just want to scream sometimes. I don't want to pay for a passport in case I want to go to Canada (cause I'm never going to Mexico).

I really just can't wrap my mind around it. They are trying to improve border security. To do so, they are requiring American citizens to have passports to cross, but people who came here illegally, basically as invaders, are being rewarded for doing so. Does that mean I should just say "Screw it, I'm going over and back without a passport?" Does that mean they will allow me to get away without paying fines, facing jail time or being deported? Does that mean I don't have to pay taxes?

Sounds like a great deal. Let's all be illegals!

It's So Right

While I was eating my lunch, I was watching the Fox News coverage of Paris Hilton's jail-break and court appearance. Ann Coulter was on with Neil Cavuto and much to my great surprise, I completely disagree with her opinion on the matter.

I think that Paris was appropriately sentenced, considering her probation violations, and am very glad that the judge has ruled she will now serve all 45 days in jail.

Come on, she is put on probation, which she violates twice. Then she is late to her hearing, where she is sentenced to 45 days, which the Sheriff immediately drops to 23 days. When she begins to serve it, she spends three days there and finds she isn't enjoying it (imagine that!), and he sends her home. Why not just send her to Las Vegas to have fun?

It was very wrong of Sheriff Baca to release her after only a few, short days in jail and put her on house arrest in her mansion. What a hard way to pay consequences (See here.). According to the Smoking Gun, the Los Angeles officials have received thousands of e-mails from ordinary citizens, outraged over the Celebrity Treatment Paris Hilton has received. You can read some of the letters there.

And the reason: she's ill or suffering from poor mental health?!? That's ridiculous. How many sick and crazy people are in that jail---still in that jail---despite their diseases/mental illnesses? We don't let people out of jail, when they have been properly tried and convicted and sentenced, just because they are ill or crazy. Jails/prisons have medical facilities just for these sorts of situations.

So, today, she has a court hearing, which she arrives at late, and the judge, thankfully, throws the book at her: she'll be serving all 45 days.

Ann Coulter thinks this is taking the celebrity treatment too far the other way, but others on the panel with Neil Cavuto, including Fox News business analyst Dagen McDowell, think that that celebrities ought to be held to a high standard. I agree. Paris Hilton thinks she's fabulous and all that is wonderful, just because she's rich and famous (because she's rich and slutty and blonde), and she needs to understand that no one is above the law. It shouldn't matter how much money you have or how famous you are.

I agree that Paris ought to be made an example of. She and her little fellow slutty-drunk friends (Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, etc.) need to grow up and face their consequences. They get away with anything they want: drinking under age, driving while drunk, etc., etc., etc. This has to stop and Paris being forced to pay the consequences is a good place to start.

Of course, she doesn't think so:

Paris Hilton was taken from a courtroom screaming and crying Friday seconds after a judge ordered her returned to jail to serve out her entire 45-day sentence for a parole violation in a reckless driving case.

"It's not right!" shouted the weeping Hilton. "Mom!" she called out to her mother in the audience.

No, Paris, what's not right is you getting to leave jail early just because you're sad! Wah, wah! What's not right is people being killed by drunk drivers who weren't sentenced to jail after being caught and ended up killing people. Paris didn't hurt anyone . . . this time, but there's always a next time. Pray she's learned her lesson.

I heard Greta Van Susteren, who was in the court room, on Fox News earlier saying that anyone who saw Paris would have known that she obviously needed medical attention. Too bad. Immature children often seem to be under psychological distress when they are upset; that sort of behavior is rightly known as a "temper tantrum." Children throw them when they don't get their way and they are sad and angry. That doesn't mean Paris shouldn't be made to accept the consequences of her actions. Perhaps, in the future, she'll think before she drives drunk, violates her probation, shows up late for court, or accepts special treatment (in regards to the law, that is, as, obviously, she's treated specially everywhere for some silly reason). And let's not even talk about Geraldo Rivera who was behaving as though poor Paris was being guillotined for her crimes. Please!

This situation only serves to remind us all that everyone, regardless of how wealthy or poor, ought to follow the law and be given the appropriate consequences. I hope all those silly teenage girls who want to emulate Paris and Britney and Nicole and Lindsay look at Paris in jail and realize that the same thing will happen to them if they decide to drink and drive.

Mostly, I hope that her 45 days in jail will help Paris Hilton grow up. She is an immature, skanky child and needs to stop acting like she's so important and fabulous and God's Gift to the world. She isn't, though she is God's child. Pray that she learns to listen to Him.

The late-night vote was on an amendment that would require illegal aliens who get legal status to have a minimum level of health insurance. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who is the chamber’s most liberal member, was — not surprisingly — opposed.

Writes Mr. Dinan: “Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and John McCain of Arizona both went to check with Mr. Kennedy before casting their votes to match his. Soon after, (Arizona Republican Sen. Jon) Kyl also switched his vote to match Mr. Kennedy’s.”

The amendment was defeated.

All three of these Republicans proudly claim to be conservatives. Strange bedfellows indeed.

AP: Judge freezes congressman's assets

"Congressman" would be Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) who, one will remember, had stashed a bunch of bribe money in his freezer (oh, yes, and then made the National Guard, right after Hurricane Katrina) drive him to his house to retrieve it---from his freezer).

A forfeiture charge is among the 16 criminal counts Jefferson is facing. Prosecutors have already said they will seek to recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars from Jefferson that they believe he obtained illicitly by peddling his influence to help broker business deals in Africa.

Jefferson is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in U.S. District Court.

Wow, 16 criminal counts. "Peddling his influence." And I thought the Democrats were the party of upstanding morals?

Washington Times: RNC fires phone solicitors---

The Republican National Committee, hit by a grass-roots donors' rebellion over President Bush's immigration policy, has fired all 65 of its telephone solicitors, Ralph Z. Hallow will report Friday in The Washington Times.

Faced with an estimated 40 percent fall-off in small-donor contributions and aging phone-bank equipment that the RNC said would cost too much to update, Anne Hathaway, the committee's chief of staff, summoned the solicitations staff last week and told them they were out of work, effective immediately, the fired staffers told The Times.

Good for us.

There has been a sharp decline in contributions from RNC phone solicitations, another fired staffer said, reporting that many former donors flatly refuse to give more money to the national party if Mr. Bush and the Senate Republicans insist on supporting what these angry contributors call "amnesty" for illegal aliens.

"Everyone donor in 50 states we reached has been angry, especially in the last month and a half, and for 99 percent of them immigration is the No. 1 issue," said the former employee.

The RNC spokeswoman denied that the committee has seen any drop-off in contributions.

They can deny it all they want, but We the People are angry and not going to give money to a party that wants to give amnesty. I will not give money to a party that wants, and actively pursues, amnesty. Not one red cent.
