A Lady's Ruminations

"Jane was firm where she felt herself to be right." -Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

Location: United States

I'm also a usually quiet, reserved Lady, who enjoys books, tea, baking, and movies! I spend most of my time reading one of my favorite books or wishing I was reading my favorite books. My Grand Passion is history, particularly the Regency Period in England, when Jane Austen wrote, Lord Nelson defeated the French Fleet at Trafalgar, the Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon, and men were Gentlemen and women Ladies. I cherish the thought of being a Lady and love manners, being proper, and having proper tea. My favorite tea is Twinings, especially Earl Grey or Prince of Wales. My specialty to make is Scones with Devon Cream. I am a Catholic and a Conservative.

I am SO excited!

John McCain just picked Pro-Life, NRA-Member Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential Candidate! News here.

I like WHO she is, as opposed to the fact that she is a woman. I am looking forward to hearing more from her, watching her debate Joe Biden, and joining her in taking on the Left.

Plus, which is really stupid, but I want to mention it, I really like how she does her hair! lol

More importantly: She is Pro-Life. Her newest child was born with Down's Syndrome, something we don't often see these days. Women would rather kill such babies than allow such loveable people to survive, which is tragic. She's pro-military. Her oldest son joined the Army 11 September 2007 and this coming 11 September will be deployed to Iraq. She's a patriot. She's a Christian. She's a mother. She's a hunter. She's smart. She's talented. She's a Conservative.

I watched her speech earlier today and thought she came across as intelligent, confident (but not bitchy, as Hillary comes across) and strong, tough, and genuine, but at the same time warm and friendly. She's just what we need.

I had not decided what I was going to do on 4 November, if I was going to vote for John McCain (very reluctantly) or if I was just not going to vote for President.

McCain's pick of Sarah Palin has convinced me he is willing to listen to those of us who are Conservatives. I will be voting for John McCain and Sarah Palin on 4 November!

Want a good laugh?

Read Ann Coulter's latest column: Hillary: Stand By Some Other Man. Absolutely classic and hilarious.

Oh, yes, and something a lot more disgusting (but related to Slick Willie), from Ann's sidebar: From Free Republic A partial list of democratic pedophiles. (No, Slick Willie wasn't a "pedophile," but he is a rapist/molester.).

"I want to live in an America where . . ."

If you have seen the two Hollywood-brainless-cultish videos supporting Barack Obama, then this will make you laugh.

In what hopelessly silly way would you end the sentence?

"I want to live in an America where . . ."

I would have to say, I want to live in an America where Jane Austen novels are read over the loudspeakers and on street corners.

I want to live in an America where we all stop at 4pm for Tea and Scones made in proper English china.

I want to live in an America where the sun never stops shining and the children all sing happy songs! *Pardon me, I feel like I'm about to cast up my accounts.*
And what do we really want?

I want to live in an America where every baby is allowed and legally has the right to be born, as we were promised with "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

I want to live in an America where the government provides for the common defense and general welfare, but doesn't tell us what we can or cannot eat.

I want to live in an America where righteous laws are lived and enforced, including the laws governing our sovereign borders.

I want to live in an America where God is allowed in our schools, public spaces, and churches.

I want to live in an America that is living up to God's plan for this blessed nation.

NR in the Mail!

A couple of weeks ago I used my Christmas present from my grandparents to buy a subscription to National Review. I used to get it when I was a College Republican and constantly read The Corner.

So, I was really excited to see that NR is currently on sale for 50% off! I signed up right away and my first issue came in the mail today! Hooray! (By the way, I'm not getting paid for this---I just love this magazine and the website!)

I'm off to read!

35 Years.

Today is the 35th anniversary of the heinous Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Millions and millions of babies have been callously slaughtered in this country---legally---and our souls are hurting as a result. We MUST end this horrible practice of murder. Pray for our country. Pray for our babies. Pray that people stop deciding to murder their children and other people's children.

NRO has a number of good columns up:

Is Fred . . .

. . . a Reagan Conservative?

Because that's what I want. That's what I'm going to campaign for. Vote for. Spend money, sweat, tears, and time for.

I want a Reagan Conservative.

And writing of Reagan leads me to this: Achieving Change: What We Can Learn from Margaret Thatcher, from the Heritage Foundation. Study it well!

Welcome to the Church!

As a Catholic, I find this to be excellent news.

Reuters: Tony Blair converts to Catholicism---

LONDON (Reuters) - Former British prime minister Tony Blair has converted from Britain's established church, Anglicanism, to Roman Catholicism, the head of Britain's Catholics said on Saturday.

Blair, whose wife and four children are Catholic, was received into the Catholic Church by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor on Friday in a move that had been widely expected after he stepped down from power in June.

"I am very glad to welcome Tony Blair into the Catholic Church," Murphy-O'Connor said in a statement, adding the conversion took place in private at a chapel at the cardinal's residence in central London.

"For a long time he has been a regular worshipper at Mass with his family and in recent months he has been following a program of formation to prepare for his reception into full communion.

"My prayers are with him, his wife and family at this joyful moment in their journey of faith together."
As are mine.

But, of course, Blair must follow the Catholic Church's teachings if he really wants to be a true and good Catholic.

Ann Widdecombe, an opposition Conservative member of parliament who converted to Catholicism herself, said Blair would have had to have changed his mind on a number of issues such as abortion and civil partnerships for gay couples.

"If you look at Tony Blair's voting record in the House of Commons, he's gone against church teaching on more than one occasion on things for example like abortion," she told the BBC.

"Unless Tony Blair actually says (he had it wrong before) then I think a lot of people are going to feel exceptions have been made because of who he is."

Hey, Queen Pelosi!

King George III wasn't really all that bad, but this cartoon certainly makes an excellent point. WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. It is actually in the Constitution, unlike the "right" to abortion.

"The Great Sage and Savior"

Is Algore (or as they call him at Hot Air "Goracle") really more deserving of a Nobel PEACE Prize than these people?

How exactly does making a fictional movie about fictional global warming promote peace?

This is "a fraud on the people."

The American public won't accept at face value Gore's self-righteous proclamations or his self-serving predictions of looming global catastrophe. And Gore has to know that, which is why he will almost certainly stick to the world of make-believe -- Hollywood and International Do-Goodery -- where he can pretend to be the great sage and savior he wishes he really were and left-wing Europeans and thespians try to convince us he is.
So very true.

Secession, anyone?

This is an interesting meeting of minds.

AP: Secessionists meeting in Tennessee---

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In an unlikely marriage of desire to secede from the United States, two advocacy groups from opposite political traditions — New England and the South — are sitting down to talk.

Tired of foreign wars and what they consider right-wing courts, the Middlebury Institute wants liberal states like Vermont to be able to secede peacefully.

That sounds just fine to the League of the South, a conservative group that refuses to give up on Southern independence.

Separated by hundreds of miles and divergent political philosophies, the Middlebury Institute and the League of the South are hosting a two-day Secessionist Convention starting Wednesday in Chattanooga.

They expect to attract supporters from California, Alaska and Hawaii, inviting anyone who wants to dissolve the Union so states can save themselves from an overbearing federal government.

If allowed to go their own way, New Englanders "probably would allow abortion and have gun control," Hill said, while Southerners "would probably crack down on illegal immigration harder than it is being now."

The U.S. Constitution does not explicitly prohibit secession, but few people think it is politically viable.
Very interesting. I believe in secession, that any state that was a colony and created the United States of America ought to have the right to secede, but that any state created by the United States of America doesn't. For example, South Carolina can secede. Iown cannot. Georgia can. Washington cannot.

I always liked the analogy in the movie Gettysburg where the US is compared to a gentlemen's club. Is it right for some members to begin telling other members how to run their own homes. And if the members want to resign, do their fellows have a right to tell them they cannot leave the club?

I don't think so.

Moving Toward the Guns

My mother got me a Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha today and I quite loved its The Way I See It quote (surprise):

On the battlefield of ideas, winning requires moving toward the sound of the guns.

I saw this picture over at NRO's Media Blog and just had to post it (Reuters):

Rather terrifying, isn't it? Doesn't she look like some sort of tyrant?
