Only "National"
Washington Post: Senate Votes English as 'National Language'
Fantastic. A "National Languague." Blah, blah, blah. I suppose we should also generally and vaguely refer to the United States of America as an "Entity," rather than a Country. If we are going to water somethings down, we might as well toss them all in.
After an emotional debate fraught with symbolism, the Senate yesterday voted to make English the "national language" of the United States, declaring that no one has a right to federal communications or services in a language other than English except for those already guaranteed by law.Absolutely ridiculous. All government business ought to be conducted in ENGLISH. If you want government documents in French, go to France. If you want government documents in Spanish, then get the hell back to Mexico.
The measure, approved 63 to 34, directs the government to "preserve and enhance" the role of English, without altering current laws that require some government documents and services be provided in other languages. Opponents, however, said it could negate executive orders, regulations, civil service guidances and other multilingual ordinances not officially sanctioned by acts of Congress.
Seriously, what is wrong with making English the official language of these United States. It is what our Founding Fathers spoke. It is what our Most Important (in the world too) documents are written in: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, the Bill of Rights.
According to Dingy Harry Reid, supporting an amendment to make English the Official Language of the US is "racist." And I suppose saying the Pledge of Allegiance to Old Glory is too (oh, wait, the Dems already object to the Pledge because of God).
Virtually all Republicans were joined by 11 Democrats to approve the largely symbolic amendment. Immediately following that vote, the Senate approved a second amendment, declaring on a 58-39 vote that English is the "common and unifying language."Wow, those Dems sure are patriotic! And yippie!!! "Common" AND "unifying"!!! Except it isn't either of those things, not now that we have been invaded by a great illegal horde, which speaks only Spanish and refuses to learn English. I would laugh if this weren't so sad.
AMERICANS want ENGLISH to be the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE of these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Our elected "representatives" (who seem to only represent themselves and the illegal horde) don't seem to care.
Such proposals enjoy overwhelming support among American voters.(emphasis added)
A poll by Zogby International earlier this year found that 84 percent of Americans say English should be the official language of government operations. The same poll found that 77 percent of Hispanics agree.
And it's a bipartisan issue, according to the poll, which found that 92 percent of Republicans and 82 percent of Democrats approve making English the country's official language.
Note the word "official" in the above bolded statements. OFFICIAL. I don't think "national" or "common and unifying" are synonyms for OFFICIAL, but I don't have a Lib Compendium of Terms. The "proposal" passed by our Senate today is NOT what AMERICANS want. We want English as the official language. Unfortunately Congress doesn't seem to speak English anymore.
