I'm also a usually quiet, reserved Lady, who enjoys books, tea, baking, and movies! I spend most of my time reading one of my favorite books or wishing I was reading my favorite books. My Grand Passion is history, particularly the Regency Period in England, when Jane Austen wrote, Lord Nelson defeated the French Fleet at Trafalgar, the Duke of Wellington defeated Napoleon, and men were Gentlemen and women Ladies. I cherish the thought of being a Lady and love manners, being proper, and having proper tea. My favorite tea is Twinings, especially Earl Grey or Prince of Wales. My specialty to make is Scones with Devon Cream. I am a Catholic and a Conservative.

The Great American Betrayal

Cross posted from CommonSenseAmerica

As our President, elected officials, and pro-illegal immigrant groups claim that the illegal immigrant does "the jobs Americans won't do" we are seeing more and more Americans unable to even apply for some jobs.

From TimesLeader, PA:

Unemployed mason Todd Harter heard there was a strip mall under construction not far from his Pennsylvania house, drove the 30 miles to check it out and asked the man in charge for a job.

Harter noticed all the workers spoke Spanish. The owner of the masonry company "looked at the Mexicans, looked at me, and said, 'I don't think you'd fit in,'" said Harter, 38, of Nescopeck, Pa. "It made me mad."

What made him even angrier is that federal immigration agents neglected to take immediate action after his father and others told U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement they suspected illegal immigrants were working on the job site.
Since when is masonry a job that Americans won't do? Masonry is a trade - a skilled labor trade - it's not some lowly job that Americans don't want. Actually, here in the Midwest, you'd be hard pressed to find any job that isn't filled by Americans. There are many Americans that take great pride in the skills of their hands.

This is just one example of an American worker that has been displaced and couldn't obtain a job `he wanted' because illegal immigrants will work for a fraction of the pay.

If that doesn't anger you, read the rest of the article because it gets worse:

Dave Crowl, who runs a family-owned masonry firm in Elysburg, Pa., spent thousands of dollars putting together a bid for the strip mall job - only to see it go to D&W.

The workers employed by D&W worked 12 hours per day, seven days a week, and were paid $15 an hour in cash under the table, Rosini said. Crowl said it costs him $42 an hour in wages and benefits to put a bricklayer to work.

Les Kauffman, president of Local 5 of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen, said he called ICE about the construction site and was told there wasn't enough evidence to conduct a raid. Moreā€¦
So, an American mason and an American "family-owned masonry firm" were both passed over for this job - a job they both wanted - because D&W decided it was better to employ illegal immigrants than willing Americans and American companies.

This is not a case of illegal immigrants "doing the jobs Americans won't do". This, and many other cases like this, are evidence that illegal immigrants are "doing the jobs Americans can no longer do" because greedy, unscrupulous businesses are looking for cheap labor.

The saddest part of all of this is that our President and our elected officials not only know what is going on in our nation, they are duplicitously enabling and encouraging it.

It all makes sense now. We've seen the `behind the scenes' deals President Bush and President Fox have been making in regards to erasing our borders and forming a North American Union. We know what they are doing.

Even more disheartening is that I trusted this President. But I now see that what I thought were `noble' speeches our President was giving about helping the American worker transition into the 21st century, weren't noble at all. What I thought was actually a program to implement the `American Competitive Initiative' in his State of the Union Address was merely a backhanded slap and a sellout of the American worker.

His speeches are far from noble:
The 2007 Budget introduces an important initiative, Career Advancement Accounts (CAA). CAAs will be self-managed accounts of up to $3,000 available to workers entering the workforce or transitioning between jobs, or incumbent workers in need of new skills to remain employed or move up the career ladder. The CAAs will give workers the resources they need to increase their skills and compete for the jobs of the 21st century economy.
This was his way of telling us that our positions are going to be filled by cheap foreign labor.

This was his way of telling us that we'd better educate ourselves for the jobs the government wants us to do, not the jobs we want to do.

This was his way of telling us that some of our skills are no longer needed and we will be forced into white collar jobs if we wish to support our families.

It's never been about `the jobs that Americans won't do', though that it what they would like us all to believe. No. This is about something far, far worse.

This is about the greatest betrayal of the American worker in the history of our nation.
